Donald's personal story

In February I was assaulted by two different people in my own house. I called the police and even though my adult step-daughter admitted to initiating the violence by repeatedly punching me, I was arrested and charged with assault. I was then remanded in custody for 3 months and had to come up with several thousands of dollars to get supreme court bail. I have been kicked out of the house I leased for 5 years and am now awaiting trial. I have read the self-defence laws in Queensland and have no idea how the Queensland Police service can charge me given the facts they know.

This whole experience has left me broke and virtually homeless while the people who assaulted me are still free to go to the house that my partner leased 5 years ago. I did nothing but defend myself and now my pre-existing mental health condition has worsened after being assaulted again in the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre. Obviously the self-defence laws in Queensland aren't worth the paper they're written on.
