Bias against men in domestic violence cases
If you thought domestic violence was only a women's issue - think again.
Local help agencies have come under attack for their alleged biased response to domestic violence ignoring a seemingly growing trend of female perpetrators and non-existent support for male victims.
Around 30 per cent of domestic violence protection applications are believed to be lodged by men with numbers uncertain due to a monopolised help service system according to co-director of the Men's Right Agency, Sue Price.
Following a report in the Townsville Sun on January 13, Ms Price said most help agencies took a prejudiced stance towards female perpetrators.
"Women's groups are in total denial that women can be violent and they maintain that stand because they want to garner all the funding that's available under the domestic violence legislation," she said.
